brisket casserole ingredients

How to make Brisket Tater Tot Casserole

First put 2 cups of leftover chopped brisket in a bowl with 1/2 to 1 cup BBQ sauce, depending how saucy you prefer.

I actually mixed my brisket and BBQ sauce together first, but you can add them separately too.

Then add a block of cream cheese, 2 cups shredded cheese, and a can of either green chiles or diced jalapenos.

Season with kosher salt, pepper, and BBQ seasoning.

Then mix until combined.

Put the brisket mixture in a greased 9×13 casserole dish and spread it evenly.

Next add a single layer of frozen tater tots.

adding the tots to the casserole

Sprinkle more BBQ seasoning over top.

Then bake in a 400 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes.

Serve Brisket Tater Tot Casserole right away for the crispiest tater tots 🙂

As this sits, the tots lose their crisp slightly… but are still just as good.

We garnished with green onions.

And served with more BBQ sauce and hot sauce too!

  • 2 cups leftover smoked brisket chopped
  • 1/2 to 1 cup BBQ sauce (more or less depending on how saucy you prefer the casserole to be)
  • 1 8 ounce block cream cheese at room temperature
  • 2 cups shredded cheese of choice (I used Monterey Jack)
  • 1 4 ounce can diced green chiles or jalapenos
  • kosher salt, pepper, BBQ seasoning blend
  • 1 30 ounce bag frozen tater tots
  • Optional: green onions, more BBQ sauce, hot sauce

  • Put the chopped brisket, BBQ sauce, cream cheese, shredded cheese, green chiles or jalapenos, kosher salt, pepper, and BBQ seasoning in a bowl. Stir until combined, which does take a minute or two.
  • Put this mixture in a greased 9×13 casserole dish and spread flat. Add the frozen tater tots on top in a single layer and season with more BBQ seasoning.
Note: You might not use all of the tots.
  • Bake in a 400 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Garnish with green onions and serve with more BBQ sauce or hot sauce if desired.
