Blackstone Steak and Cheese Subs
I was SO confused on what to call this simple griddle sandwich, but finally decided on “Blackstone Steak and Cheese Subs” so I didn’t break any “cheesesteak” or “chopped steak” rules 😉
My Cousin Vinny from Philly has explained these rules to me, and I’m finally starting to learn there are strong feelings of what a cheesesteak truly is and isn’t… also, Go Birds! 🙂
Sooooo… NOT a cheesesteak, just a last-minute dinner idea that started when I told my husband I was making beef and broccoli on the flat top griddle.
He really didn’t have to say a word, his face said it all… as soon as I said ” broccoli”, I instantly knew I had to come up with Plan B.
So, I went to the local deli and got some sub buns to make him a simple steak sub with cheese on the Blackstone instead.

How to make Blackstone Steak and Cheese Subs
First preheat your Blackstone griddle to medium heat.
Then add a few thin cut strip steaks and season with kosher salt and pepper.
These were about 1/4 inch thick, and honestly something I ordered from the butcher by mistake.
So this truly was a “winging it” type of dinner.

The steak will cook just about a minute or two per side.

Then use your spatulas and griddle scraper to pull or tear the steak into smaller pieces.
It was so thin and tender it didn’t take much effort at all.
Add some Worcestershire sauce and Blackstone Cheesesteak seasoning blend if you have it, if not a burger or steak seasoning blend will be just fine.

Then place some slices of American cheese over top of the steak.
And place two sub buns, cut side down on the Blackstone to warm and toast them.

Mix the steak and cheese together with your spatulas until the cheese is melted and combined.

And remove the sub buns once they are toasted to your liking.

My husband wanted spicy mustard, but you can spread some mayo or horseradish sauce on if you prefer.

Finally, just pile on that melty mix of beef and cheese.

Add the top bun and enjoy!

My husband much preferred this last-minute creation of Blackstone Steak and Cheese Subs to the original plan of broccoli stir fry 😉
