Smoked Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings

Smoked Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings

Smoked Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings have the perfect mix of sweet, spicy, and smoky!

The perfect snack for game day, a fun dinner idea, or in our case… a messy but yummy weekend snack by the pool!

Summer days are the BEST when you have the smoker or grill going, am I right?!

How to make Smoked Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings

We started with 5 pounds of jumbo split chicken wings and some sauces to make a new sauce creation.

chicken wing ingredients

First, pat the wings dry and place them in a big bowl.

Drizzle some olive oil over top and season well with kosher salt, pepper, and seasoning blend of choice.

I used a mix of Old Bay and steak seasoning.

Toss the wings until they are evenly combined.

And head out to the smoker or Traeger pellet grill.

Put the seasoned wings on the smoker for 2 1/2 hours total.

And flip them halfway through cooking.

While the wings were doing their thing on the smoker, make the honey buffalo sauce.

Add a cup of buffalo wing sauce, 1/4 cup honey, and a tablespoon each of soy sauce and lemon juice to a saucepan.

Bring it just to a boil for a minute, then set aside.

When there’s about a half hour left of smoking, brush the wings on all sides with the sauce a few times.

Smoked Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings

Serve Smoked Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings with the remaining honey buffalo sauce and ranch dressing!

Such a great wing flavor… a little familiar thanks to the buffalo sauce.

But with a slightly unique flavor thanks to the rest of the sauce ingredients.

Equipment

  • Traeger/Pellet Grill
  • Smoker

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds jumbo split chicken wings
  • olive oil, kosher salt, pepper, seasoning blend of choice (I used a mix of steak seasoning blend and Old Bay)
  • 1 cup buffalo wing sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Optional: ranch dressing for dipping

Instructions

  • Pat the wings dry with paper towels and place in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and season well with kosher salt, pepper, and seasoning blend of choice. Toss until evenly coated.
  • Set the Traeger pellet grill or smoker to 250 degrees. Place the wings on the grill grate for 2 1/2 hours, flipping halfway through.
  • While the wings smoke, make the honey buffalo sauce. Set a small saucepan over high heat on the stove and add the buffalo sauce, honey, soy sauce, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil for a minute and remove from heat, stirring a few times. Set aside.
  • Brush the wings on all sides with the honey buffalo sauce during the last half hour on the smoker. Serve with the remaining honey buffalo sauce and ranch for dipping if desired.
Note: Make sure the internal temperature of the wings is above 165 degrees before serving.
