Grilled Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Skewers
This Grilled Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Skewers recipe might make you feel like you’re in a tropical paradise!
This recipe has an easy to make Hawaiian style BBQ sauce, also known as Huli Huli sauce đŸ™‚
And that’s just fun to say in my opinion.
A sweet, sticky glaze for the chicken paired with grilled pineapple is the perfect combo for a fun summer meal on the grill.
How to make Grilled Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Skewers
You can use chicken thighs or breasts (thighs will be a bit more flavorful and juicy).
I am using canned pineapple, but fresh would be so much better.
For the Hawaiian BBQ/ Huli Huli sauce you’ll need some pineapple juice, ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and hot sauce.
Bring to a boil, simmer for 10 minutes, and let it cool while you cut the chicken into bite size pieces.
Put the chicken in a gallon size plastic bag along with some of the sauce.
Then marinate for a few hours.
When it’s time to make the kabobs, cut a red onion into similar size pieces as the pineapple chunks and chicken.
And make the kabobs just like this.
Season the kabobs with kosher salt and pepper and head out to the grill.
Preheat your grill to medium high heat and place the skewers right on the grill grate.
They will take 10 to 12 minutes total, flipping a few times.
And brush them with more of the Huli Huli Hawaiian BBQ sauce a few times during the last half of grilling.
Grilled Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Kabobs would be amazing served over rice!
And with the rest of the amazing sauce for dipping đŸ™‚

- 1 to 2 tablespoons favorite hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste or minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste or minced ginger
- 1 1/2 to 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs (or chicken breasts)
- 1 20 ounce can pineapple chunks
- 1 red onion
- 6 kabob skewers (if wooden soak in water for several hours)
- kosher salt, pepper
Instructions

- Preheat the grill to medium high heat. Grill the skewers for 10 to 12 minutes total, turning a few times and brushing with some of the Hawaiian BBQ sauce.
- Serve with remaining sauce on the side for dipping.
