Blackstone Green Beans and Potatoes

Blackstone Green Beans and Potatoes

Can’t decide between a potato or green bean side dish?! Problem solved with this easy to make Blackstone Green Beans and Potatoes recipe!

I was making Smoked BBQ Chicken Thighs outside, why not make the side dish outside too, right?!

A complete meal that was fun to make with no dirty pots or pans, even though it was only 8 degrees outside 😉 Brrrrrr!

side dish ingredients

How to make Blackstone Green Beans and Potatoes

First prep all your ingredients and put them on a tray to easily carry outside, and use the tray to carry the side dish back inside.

Cut a pound of redskin or gold potatoes into about inch side pieces.

Then trim a pound of green beans.

Add a diced onion and minced garlic and you’re pretty much good to go 🙂

prepped ingredients ready for the griddle

Preheat your griddle to medium heat for a few minutes.

Mine took a little longer to heat up than normal because of the 8 degree temperature, but no worries.

That’s to be expected in colder temps 🙂

Add some cooking oil and the potatoes, kosher salt, pepper, and a seasoning blend of choice (I went with a steak seasoning).

The potatoes will cook for 5 to 6 minutes covered with a melting dome, and add a little water to steam them.

Remove the melting dome (or a 9×13 foil pan works too) a few times to mix and flip them, adding more water each time.

Next add a little more cooking oil, the green beans, diced onion, and more kosher salt, pepper, and seasoning blend of choice.

And cook this for 6 to 7 more minutes, mixing and flipping a few times with your hibachi spatulas.

You could cover with the melting dome to speed up the cooking a bit (I did because it was so darn cold 😉 ).

Finally add some butter and fresh minced garlic.

And cook a few more minutes, really just cook until the veggies are cooked how you like.

Taste for seasoning and add more kosher salt, pepper, and/or seasoning blend if needed.

Equipment

  • Blackstone Griddle
  • Flat Top Grill/ Griddle

Ingredients

  • cooking oil of choice
  • 1 pound redskin or gold potatoes cut into inch size pieces
  • kosher salt, pepper, seasoning blend of choice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 pound fresh green beans (I used French cut green beans) trimmed if needed
  • 1 onion diced
  • 5 to 6 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  • Prep all the ingredients and put them on a tray to carry out to the griddle.
  • Preheat the griddle to medium heat for several minutes. Add some cooking oil of choice and the potatoes, season them with kosher salt, pepper, and seasoning blend.
  • Cook the potatoes on the griddle for 5 to 6 minutes, cover them with a melting dome as they cook, add some water under the dome to steam them. Flip them a few times with hibachi spatulas and add more water a few times.
Note: If you don't have a melting dome, a foil pan works. Just be careful touching it as it will be hot.
  • Remove the melting dome and add more cooking oil, the green beans, onions, and season with more kosher salt, pepper, and seasoning blend. Cook together with the potatoes for 6 to 7 more minutes, flipping and mixing a few times.
Note: Put the melting dome over top in between mixing to speed up cooking a bit if you'd like.
  • Add the garlic and butter. Cook 2 to 3 more minutes, flipping and mixing together on the griddle a few times or until the veggies are cooked how you like. Taste for seasoning and add more kosher salt, pepper, and/or seasoning blend if needed.
